Romans 6:2

How can we who died to sin still live in it?

Grace is a wonderful thing! Grace is a gift that only Jesus can truly give us. Grace is undeserved but given to us anyway. The old hymn captures grace perfectly.

Grace, grace, God's grace

Grace that will pardon and cleanse within

Grace, grace, God's grace

Grace that is greater than all our sin

Grace should keep us singing. But grace shouldn’t keep us sinning. There has always been that one person. “If grace covers sin, aren’t I helping God out by sinning and letting Him show more grace?” This was the question in Rome. This is a question that still lingers in many hearts.

You still sin. That is a fact. Jesus’ grace covers it, and His sacrifice atones for it, but you still sin. But there is a difference in sinning and living in sin. You may tell a lie. That is a sin. You may lie all the time. That makes you a liar. That is living in sin. Therein lies the difference in basking in the glow of grace or abusing it.

Salvation requires grace. Grace requires salvation. Both grace and salvation require death. It required the death or Our Lord Jesus. It requires us to die as well. Jesus went to too much effort for me to be the same person I was before I knew Him. This is why we follow Christ in baptism. We enter the waters to put our old self to death and rise from that watery grave in a new life. Live like you are brand new.
